About the event
The focus of the concert will be Frank Martin's Mass for Double Choir. This work is one of the most popular contemporary works for acappella choir. We would like to commemorate the self-taught Swiss composer Frank Martin with the performance of this work in the Martin Year 2024, 50 years after his death. The mass is framed by acappella works by other self-taught composers: Clytus Gottwald died in 2023 and leaves us great works for choir such as his vocal transcription of Mahler's “Urlicht”. With Brahms' motet "Why is the light given to the Mühseligen" op. 74 No.1 we ask the question of theodicy before Edward Elgar's "Lux aeterna" in a vocal version by John Cameron concludes the concert.
